J&K Powerlifting team excels at National C’ship in Agra

JAMMU, May 5: Jammu & Kashmir Powerlifting team delivered a stellar performance at the National Powerlifting Championship 2025-26, concluded recently in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.
Organized by the Powerlifting Sports Organization, the prestigious national event saw the participation of over 300 athletes from more than 15 states across the country.
J&K fielded a strong contingent of 22 athletes, who showcased exceptional skill, strength, and determination across various categories. Their commitment to the sport translated into an impressive medal haul, earning them national recognition.
Among the most notable achievements, Sumit Thakyal was conferred with the Best Lifter Award in the Deadlift Open Category, while Ritu Charak was named Strong Woman in the Full Powerlifting division-both highly regarded honors at the national level.
The J&K team brought home a total of 21 medals, including 16 golds, four silvers, and one bronze. The gold medalists were Sumit Thakyal, Ravinder Singh, Sahil Anand, Deeksha, Harjinder Singh, Sahil Bhatti, Gurbaksh, Vijay Kumar, Surya Dev Singh, Shallinder Charak, Azad Karan, Ritu Charak, Ankit Mahajan, Vipul Sharma, Abrar Malik and Mohit Rana.
Silver medals were clinched by Deep Rajput, Sameer Kalotra, Insaaf Thapa, and Sarabjeet Singh. Abhimanyu added to the tally with a bronze medal.
