J&K Police to take on Food-Supplies in summit clash

JAMMU, Jan 16: Defeating their rivals in close contests, the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) team and Food and Supplies have sealed berth in the finals of the 7th Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament and will face each other in the title clash on February 18 at Mini Stadium, Parade, here.
In the first match which had remained unfinished yesterday, JKP registered a narrow win by six goals to five (6-5) over formidable J&K Forest team in a highly volatile game via tie-breaker.
Earlier, after a (2-2) draw in the stipulated time, with Zahoor and Imtiyaz scoring for JKP and Bilal scoring for J&K Forest, the match was decided through tie-breakers, wherein JKP prevailed over their rivals by six goals to five (6-5). For JKP, the goal scorers were Fayaz, Manmohan Singh, Sandeep and Ajay, while Yasin and Vishal missed the target. Rizwan, Umer and Nasir netted the goals for J&K Forest, while Ashu, Anus and Bilal failed to hit the target in the toe-breaker.
In another semifinal played today, Food and Supplies registered a win by a solitary goal over strong J&K Bank team to make way for the finals. The players of both the teams displayed anticipation, motor ability and sharp soccer skills, but finally Food and Supplies won a thriller by one goal to nil (1-0). Prem Kumar of J&K Bank was shown yellow card for dangerous play in 32nd minute of the match, while Waseem, Irfan and Ajaz of Food and Supplies received the same treatment for foul play in 34th, 41st and 63rd minute of the match respectively.
The matches were officiated by the panel of experts including Moon Stephen, Saudhagahar Mattoo, Client Mattoo, Vijay Kumar, Kaushal Kumar and Harmanjeet Singh, while the tournament is being organized by All J&K Christian Welfare Association, under the overall supervision of its president SM Gill.
