JAMMU, Mar 27: Local favourites J&K champion Sumit Grover, Aarav Gupta and Pazhany Kohli made an impressive start, scoring a perfect two out of two after the opening rounds of the ongoing International Rating Chess Fiesta at IDPS, Junior Wing Extension.
A total of 120 players from nine states are participating in the tournament, which is being conducted under FIDE Laws of Chess using the Swiss system. The nine-round event offers cash prizes worth Rs 2 lakh, while unrated players have the opportunity to earn FIDE ratings based on their performance.
The tournament is being organized by the Jammu District Chess Association in collaboration with Premier Chess Academy USA and IDPS.
International Arbiter Varun Kumar is serving as the Chief Arbiter, assisted by a panel of arbiters including Anand J S (Kerala), Arvindu, Nirmal Sharma, Ajit Kumar and Stuti Gupta.
The event is being conducted under the supervision of Meenal Gupta, the first-ever woman president of AJKCA, who has announced 42 events in Jammu district this year, including three FIDE rating tournaments.
