JAMMU, June 16: The Jammu and Kashmir Karate team brought pride to the Union Territory by winning three bronze medals at the Sub-Junior, Cadet and Junior National Karate Championship 2025, held in Dehradun from June 11 to 15, under the banner of the Karate India Organisation (KIO).
The prestigious event was graced by Rekha Arya, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Uttarakhand, as the chief guest, while Hanshi Bharat Sharma, President of KIO, presided over the function.
Medal winners from the J&K contingent included Moomin Hamid Malik (Sub-Junior Boys +60kg), Sehreen Jaan (Sub-Junior Girls -50kg) and Rudhra Pratap Saini (Cadet Boys -70kg Kumite), each securing a bronze medal in their respective categories.
The 42-member team was led by Ambedkar Gupta, President of the Amateur Karate-Do Association of J&K and recipient of the Parshuram Award. Expressing pride, he said, “This achievement marks J&K’s return to the national karate stage.”
The coaching and support team included Munish Kumar, Anil Kumar, Sourav Mehra, Vansh Sambyal, Rittu Slathia and Palavi Mahajan.
