JAMMU, Feb 5: Jammu and Kashmir Football Association, under the aegis of All India Football Federation is organizing the prestigious 70th National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy at GGM Science College Football ground from tomorrow.
This was informed by Zamir Ahmed Thakur, president Jammu and Kashmir Football Association while addressing media persons at Press Club, here.
He was accompanied by vice president of the Association, Surinder Singh Bunty, Dr Nirmolak Singh, general secretary R K Kohli, besides Shiv Kumar Sharma, joint secretary J&K State Sports Council.
Mr Thakur said that 8 teams will be taking part in this 6 days tournament at Jammu from February 6 to February 11, 2016 and these teams include Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and hosts J&K.
“These teams have been placed in Group-A and Group-B, with J&K, Delhi, UP and Chandigarh in Group-A and Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand in Group-B,” Thakur further informed.
He said the teams in their respective groups will be playing on all play all pattern, meaning that each team will play at least 3 matches.
Mr Thakur said that Jammu and Kashmir will take on Uttar Pradesh in the inaugural match at 2 pm tomorrow, while Chandigarh will take on Delhi earlier at 10 am.
A total of 12 matches of this soccer extravaganza will be played during six days.
