Women’s U-23 One Day Trophy

JAMMU, Mar 5: Jammu and Kashmir’s Women’s U-23 cricket team kicked off their campaign in the Women’s U-23 One Day Trophy with a commanding 4-wicket victory over Jharkhand at the Sports Hub International Stadium, Trivandrum. A collective effort from the bowlers, led by speedster Mariya Noorain and standout batting performances by the opening duo of Bawandeep Kaur and Sheena Saraf, along with an all-round display from skipper Rudrakshi Chib, powered J&K to a comfortable win.
Chasing a target of 152 runs, J&K made a solid start with an 87-run opening partnership between Bawandeep and Sheena. Bawandeep top-scored with 51 runs off 81 balls, including 9 boundaries, while Sheena contributed 25 runs off 71 balls with 3 boundaries. Despite losing three quick wickets, J&K reached the target in 47.2 overs with a 5-wicket victory.
Rudrakshi played a crucial role in steering her team to victory, remaining unbeaten on 43 runs off 40 balls, including 7 fours. Ananaya Sharma supported her with an unbeaten 9 runs, sealing the win.
Earlier, Jharkhand, after being put to bat, found themselves struggling at 32/5 in 13.3 overs. However, a resilient partnership between Shikha (51 runs off 75 balls) and Chandmuni Purti (32 runs) helped them recover to 152 runs in 44.4 overs.
Mariya Noorain was the pick of the bowlers for J&K, claiming 2 wickets for 22 runs in 8 overs, while Rudrakshi also took 2 wickets for 29 runs in 7.4 overs. Arveen Riyas, Ananaya Sharma, Chitra Singh Jamwal, and Tahseena Nisar took one wicket each.
