JAMMU, Dec 12: In a masterclass display, Jammu & Kashmir’s Under-16 batters dominated Meghalaya on day one of their Vijay Merchant Trophy encounter at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium, Surat, Gujarat amassing a colossal 585/7, the second-highest single-day score in the tournament’s history.
Opting to bowl first, Meghalaya were punished by J&K openers Karman Singh and Arsalan Nayak, who forged a 248-run partnership. Arsalan scored a blazing 140 (151 balls, 16 fours, 7 sixes), while Karman scored 182 (214 balls, 31 fours, 2 sixes). Hadi Amin added an unbeaten 115 (84 balls, 15 fours, 4 sixes) in a powerful alliance with Karman. Adnan Manzoor (53 off 28 balls) and Rajveer Singh (44) provided strong support, while brief contributions came from Jaskaran Singh (21) and skipper Smagey Khajuria (12).
Meghalaya bowlers struggled, with D Marak taking 3/105 and G Paul 2/108. Brig Anil Gupta lauded the team’s effort, calling it a “masterclass by J&K’s U-16 warriors.” The squad is led by head coach Sameer Khajuria, with a dedicated support team ensuring peak performance.
