JAMMU, Mar 24: Three Wushu athletes from Jammu and Kashmir brought glory to the Union Territory in the Khelo India Wushu Sr. Women’s League Championship held at Bilsapur, Chhattisgarh from March 20 to 23.
Ansa Chisti clinched the Gold medal, while Ayeera Chisti and Riya Chib secured Bronze medals in the 52 kg and 65 kg categories, respectively. All three athletes qualified for the championship during the Khelo India Zonal League Wushu Championship held in Patiala.
Ayeera Chisti, a silver medalist in the National Games, unfortunately suffered a minor foot injury during her bout, resulting in a fracture. Ansa Chisti earned the Gold medal in the 56 kg category. The gold medalist was awarded Rs 20,000 while Bronze medallists got Rs 10,000 each.
Secretary of the Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul, congratulated the medallists and assured that the best facilities would be provided to women athletes, enabling them to bring more accolades to the country and the UT of Jammu and Kashmir at national and international levels.
Vijay Saraf, President Wushu Association of J&K, Vice President Ranjeet Kalra, General Secretary Bhavneet and Dronacharya Awardee Kuldeep Handoo also congratulated the women athletes and expressed their gratitude to MYAS for the scheme, which has significantly boosted women’s sports across the country.
