J&K athletes secure 49 medals at NSG

JAMMU, Mar 10: Jammu and Kashmir is making a remarkable impact at the National School Games (NSG) this season, having already secured 49 medals across various sports disciplines. With 10 Gold, 17 Silver, and 22 Bronze medals in the bag, the Union Territory is on track to achieve a record medal haul, with expectations of 40-50 more medals in the upcoming events.
Rajinder Singh Tara, Director General of Youth Services and Sports, shared that around 1,700 athletes from J&K have already participated in the NSG, with 500 more expected to join. He also mentioned that the remaining events feature strong contenders in disciplines like Roller Skating, Thang-ta, Football, and Gatka, further boosting the chances of more medals.
Jammu and Kashmir’s athletes have excelled in various sports, including Fencing (16 medals), Wushu (15 medals), Judo (7 medals), Taekwondo (4 medals), and Weightlifting (2 medals). District-wise, Jammu District led with 27 medals, followed by Srinagar with 9 medals and Budgam with 5 medals.
Tara highlighted the Government’s commitment to promoting sports throughout the Union Territory, ensuring better infrastructure and providing a conducive environment for athletes to thrive at the national level.
