Srinagar, Mar 7: The Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM & WS) concluded two skiing courses, the Basic Skiing Course – 64 (BSC-64) and the Advance Skiing Course 18 (ASC-18).
The courses were started from February 22. A total of 83 trainees from various parts of the country participated in these courses. 66 students took part, out of which 59 successfully completed the Basic Skiing Course – 64. The course covered a range of skiing techniques including sliding, gliding, schussing, fall & recovery, side-stepping, snowplough & brake, herringbone, snowplough turn, traverse & kick turn, stem turn, and stem swing.
There were 17 students successfully completed the Advance Skiing Course – 18 (ASC-18). The course focused on advanced skiing techniques such as Langlauf with gears, dynamic stem swing, parallel turns, weddlen turn, long brook, middle brook, short brook, mogul skiing, one-leg skiing, off-piste, and downhill. Similar to BSC-64, medical lectures were provided along with exposure to slalom competition.
These courses not only equipped the participants with essential skiing skills but also provided them with valuable insights into safety measures and competitive aspects of the sport.
