Jammu runners shine in Jaisalmer to Laungewala race

JAMMU, Dec 7: In a remarkable display of strength, endurance and mental fortitude, runners from Jammu successfully conquered “The Border – A Hell Race”, one of India’s most demanding ultra running events held from Jaisalmer to Laungewala. Athletes from across the country participated in the 50 km, 100 km and 160 km categories, and Jammu’s contingent left a strong mark on this extreme test of human capability.
The event is known for its harsh desert terrain and unforgiving weather conditions. Beginning at 1200 hours, the race pushes runners through the scorching heat of the afternoon and later challenges them with freezing night temperatures, making it one of the toughest endurance races in the nation.
In the 100 Miles (160 km) category, three runners from Jammu showcased exceptional grit. Ravinder Sharma completed the challenging distance in 26 hrs 55 mins, Ronit Verma recorded a timing of 27 hours, while Sahil Sharma delivered an outstanding performance by finishing in just 21 hours, making him one of the fastest among the group.
The 100 km category witnessed impressive performances as well. Rajesh Koul completed the race in 14 hrs 11 mins, Ajay Sawhney in 15hrs 41 min, Kirti Mahajan in 14 hrs 6 mins, and Prerna Sharma in 15 hrs 9 mins, each displaying remarkable consistency throughout the gruelling stretch.
In the 50 km segment, women athletes from Jammu shone brightly. Vasudha Samnotra clocked 6 hrs 28 mins, while Shalini Gupta and Neetu completed their runs in 8 hrs 4 mins and 8 hrs 15 mins respectively, showcasing commendable resilience.
Despite the punishing route, all runners from Jammu successfully completed their categories, earning widespread admiration for their discipline, determination and inspiring performances.
