Jammu outplays Srinagar in inaugural tie

KATHUA, Sept 21: District Jammu outplayed District Srinagar by a margin of 17 runs in the inaugural match, while District Baramulla defeated Reasi by 8 wickets in the State Level Inter-District Under-14 Boys Cricket Tournament, which got underway at Sports Stadium, here today.
The 3-day Tournament was inaugurated by Dr Manmohan Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, while DYSSO Kathua Sunil Kumar was present on the occasion. Rajesh Kumar, Kailash Chander, Pawan Kumar, Kuldeep Singh, Joginder Kumar Khajuria and Mohan Lal were also present on the occasion.
Thirteen Districts of the State are participating in the event comprising of 188 players.
The matches were officiated by Jai Paul Singh, Mohan Lal Dub, Avnesh Kumar, Sandeepan Sharma, Omkar Singh, Ram Lubaya, Kulbushan Singh, Mandeep Singh, Rattan Bharti and Parveen Singh.
Earlier, in the first match, Jammu defeated Srinagar by 17 runs. Batting first, Jammu scored 109 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 15 overs. Skipper Musaif Ajaz was the top scorer with 53 runs, while Rohan Gill contributed 12 runs to the total.
In reply, Srinagar was bundled out for 92 runs to lose the match by 17 runs. For Jammu District, Abhay Tandon and Aditpal Singh took 2 wickets each, while Praful Dhar and Jugjap Singh claimed one wicket each.
In another match, Baramulla defeated Reasi by 2 wickets. Reasi scored a paltry total of 57 runs in 13 overs, while Baramulla chased the target in 13 overs by losing 2 wickets.
In third match of the day, Poonch defeated Budgam by 9 wickets. Budgam scored 54 runs, while Poonch chased the target by losing 1 wicket, thus won the match by 9 wickets.
