Jammu District Judo C’ship kicks off

JAMMU, Nov 18: Jammu District Judo Championship began at the Indoor Sports Complex, MA Stadium, here today with around 150 participants showcasing their skills and determination. Organized by the Judo Association of Jammu & Kashmir under the aegis of the JK Sports Council and the J&K Olympic Association, the event aims to foster a competitive spirit and highlight emerging talent in the sport.
The Championship was inaugurated by former international judoka Bhanu Partap, who encouraged the participants and praised their dedication. The event saw the presence of prominent personalities, including Vikas Gupta, Senior Vice President of JAJ&K; Suraj Sharma, General Secretary of JAJ&K; Suraj Bhan Singh, Manager of the Indoor Complex; Ritika Slathia, Senior Judo Coach; and officials Avinash Sharma and Rakesh Sharma. The event is being spearheaded by Manish Chatwal, the Organizing Secretary.
The Championship witnessed intense matches across various age and weight categories. Outstanding performances were seen in the girls’ segment, with gold medals won by Manya Kandari in the 28kg category, Monika in 32kg, Mansi Bhagat in 36kg, Sana Sharma in 40kg, Mehrish Malik in 44kg, Nagampreet Kour in 48kg, Divyansh Darmal in 52kg, Navya in 57kg, and Ikshita Midiada in the above 57kg category.
Similarly, in the boys’ events, top honors were claimed by Mohd Irfan in the 30kg category, Ayush Sharma in 35kg, Rajvir Singh in 40kg, Naksh in 45kg, Mohd Suleman in 50kg, Dhruv in 55kg, Shivansh Singh in 60kg, Suryvansh Chib in 66kg, and Shaurya Dev Singh in the above 66kg category.
