JAMMU, Apr 6: Young Ishwam Kwatra clinched the title at the Jammu District Open Chess Championship 2026, held today at Hotel Nek, Below Gumat, Jammu. Soumya Mahajan won the silver medal, while Ishaan Choudhary secured bronze. The championship featured 44 players competing across seven rounds under the Swiss system and FIDE Laws of Chess.
Bindu Pathania served as Chief Arbiter, with Stuti Gupta as Deputy Chief Arbiter. In age-category prizes, Surinder Gupta won gold in U-19, Lakshay Choudhary in U-17, Aahana Gupta in U-15, Ayaan Dev in U-13, Rajyawardhan in U-11 and Rushank in U-9.
Organized by the Jammu District Chess Association under the aegis of the All J&K Chess Association and J&K Sports Council, the event showcased remarkable skill and tactical prowess among young players, highlighting the growing talent in the region.
