JAMMU, Mar 28: Ishmeet Singh and Kumaresh A were leading the field with five points each after five rounds in the ongoing International Rating Chess Fiesta at International Delhi Public School (IDPS), Junior Wing Extension, C Sainik Colony.
Close on their heels were Akshat Negi and Maxim Singh with 4.5 points, while nine other players remained in contention with four points each. With four rounds still to be played, the tournament has entered an exciting phase, especially on the top boards. Notably, a visually impaired player is also competing in the event, displaying remarkable determination and courage.
The tournament has attracted 120 participants from nine states and is being conducted under FIDE Laws of Chess following the Swiss system. A total of nine rounds will be played, with cash prizes worth Rs 2 lakh at stake. The event also provides an opportunity for unrated players to earn FIDE ratings based on their performance.
The competition is being organized by the Jammu District Chess Association in collaboration with Premier Chess Academy USA and IDPS.
International Arbiter Varun Kumar is officiating as the Chief Arbiter, assisted by Anand J S (Kerala), Arvindu, Nirmal Sharma, Ajit Kumar and Stuti Gupta.
The event is being conducted under the supervision of Meenal Gupta, the first-ever woman president of AJKCA.
