JAMMU, Aug 6: A hands-on Basic Life Support (BLS) workshop was conducted at KC Public School, Jammu, in collaboration with the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM), Jammu Branch and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Katra. The workshop aimed to equip students with essential life-saving techniques and enhance emergency response awareness.
The session was led by American Heart Association (AHA)-certified instructors Dr. Vanilla Chopra, Head, Department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care at SMVD Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME) and Dr. Shruti Gupta, Associate Professor, Department of Anaesthesia, Critical Care & Pain Medicine, Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu.
Over 100 students of Class 10 participated in the workshop, which included theoretical instruction, hands-on CPR training, practical demonstrations and Q&A discussions. Students were taught how to respond to emergencies like cardiac arrest, choking, and unconsciousness.
Dr. Vanilla Chopra emphasized the importance of BLS skills among youth, stating, “Empowering young people builds a resilient and responsive community.” Dr. Shruti Gupta stressed the need to integrate BLS into school education.
Principal Amarendra Kumar Mishra expressed gratitude for the initiative, saying, “Life skills like BLS are as important as academic excellence. We are proud to host such vital training.”
