Int’l Rating Chess Fiesta in Jammu from March 26

JAMMU, Feb 7: The All Jammu & Kashmir Chess Association (AJKCA), in collaboration with Premier Chess Academy, USA, will host an International Rating Chess Fiesta from March 26 to 31, 2026 at IDPS School, Sunjwan.
The event will allow unrated players to achieve FIDE ratings based on their performance, with cash prizes worth Rs 2 lakh for winners. The tournament will follow the classical format under the Swiss system and as per FIDE Laws of Chess.
AJKCA President Meenal Gupta also announced the launch of a pilot project “Weekend Chess” in Jammu district, aimed at promoting chess at the grassroot level. This project will later be replicated across all districts of J&K. She revealed that over 40 chess events will be organised in Jammu district this year, with the complete calendar to be released on February 14, 2026.
Premier Chess Academy, founded by Renjith Balakrishnan and Deepak Subramani, will provide international exposure and support, strengthening J&K’s vision of becoming a major chess hub, fostering critical thinking, decision-making, and mental agility among youth.
