JAMMU, May 21: To mark International Biodiversity Day, celebrated globally on May 22, the Biodiversity Cell of the J&K Biodiversity Council, Jammu, in collaboration with the Environment Unit of MIER College of Education, organized a Painting cum Poster Making Competition based on the theme “Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development.”
The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 16 students of MIER College, who creatively expressed the importance of biodiversity and sustainable living through their artworks. Their thought-provoking visuals conveyed strong environmental messages encouraging harmony with nature.
The competition was judged by Prof. Nishta Rana, Head of the School of Education and Dr. Monika Bajaj, Head of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities. Both judges commended the students for their creativity, originality and awareness.
The first prize was jointly awarded to Sonakshi Gupta (B.A. Hons. Political Science, Semester VI) and Shweta (B.Ed. Special Education, Semester II). The Second Prize went to Janvi Sharma (B.Ed., Semester II) and Paaras Chib (B.A. Hons. Psychology, Semester II). Manvi Parmar (B.Ed. Special Education, Semester IV) secured the Third Prize. A Consolation Prize was awarded to Shriya Mantoo (B.A. Hons. Psychology, Semester VI).
All participants received Certificates of Participation and Awards from the J&K Biodiversity Council. Prof. Adit Gupta, Director and Principal of MIER College, congratulated the winners and praised the initiative for promoting biodiversity awareness among students.
