JAMMU, Oct 8: The Inter-School Zonal Level Athletics Meet for Boys, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Zone Akhnoor, commenced at Sports Stadium Palwan, Akhnoor, here today witnessing enthusiastic participation from young athletes across the zone. Held under the chairmanship of Sukhdev Raj Sharma, District Youth Services & Sports Officer, Jammu and the overall supervision of Ashok Kumar, Zonal Physical Education Officer (ZPEO), the first day of the meet saw around 100 athletes from various Government and private schools competing in the U-14, U-17 and U-19 categories.
Track events included 100m, 400m, and 3000m races, while field events such as Long Jump, Shot Put, and Discus Throw tested the participants’ strength and agility. The trials aim to identify and select top-performing athletes who will represent Zone Akhnoor in the upcoming Inter-Zonal District Level Athletics Competitions.
Addressing the participants, ZPEO Ashok Kumar encouraged the budding athletes to pursue sports with dedication, discipline, and a long-term vision, inspiring them to prepare rigorously for higher-level competitions. The meet will continue with events for girls and the final selection rounds in the coming days.
