JAMMU, Nov 7: An Inter-Collegiate Weightlifting Tournament for men and women was held at GGM Science College, here today, under the aegis of the Cluster University of Jammu. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal, GGM Science College, as the chief guest, who encouraged students to embrace sports and fitness for overall personality development. Dr. Vinod Bakshi, Director, Physical Education and Sports, emphasized the importance of such events in fostering team spirit and enhancing sports culture.
In the Women’s Section, the winners in various weight categories were: Simran Kumari (48 Kg) claimed first place, followed by Saloni Devi in second. In the 58 Kg category, Archita Verma secured first position. The 63 Kg category was topped by Palak Sharma, with Bhumika Thakur finishing second. In the 77 Kg category, Khushi Kalotra emerged as the winner.
In the Men’s Section, Ansh Sharma won the 60 Kg category. The 65 Kg category was won by Aadil Ali, with Ashutosh finishing second. In the 71 Kg category, Mohd. Vaseem claimed first place, while Aditya Kumar secured second. Piyush Manhas won the 88 Kg category, and Harpreet Singh emerged victorious in the 110 Kg category.
The tournament was officiated by Danraj Singh Slathia, Inderpal Singh, and Lakhvinder Gill. Dignitaries present included Ravi, Physical Director, SPMR College of Commerce; Kajal Premi, Physical Director, GCW Gandhi Nagar; Dr. Rozy Bamba; and Dr. Lokendar Singh.
