Inter-College Chess Tourney begins at GCE Jammu

JAMMU, Feb 12: The Two-day Inter-College Chess Tournament 2026 for Men and Women was inaugurated today at the Government College of Education, Jammu, with great enthusiasm. The tournament featured 46 students from various constituent colleges of Cluster University of Jammu.
Dr Vinod Bakshi, Director Sports, Cluster University of Jammu, graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Dr. Jyoti Parihar, Principal of the host college, was the Guest of Honour. Senior college members Prof Satish Sharma and Prof Sunanda were also present. In her welcome address, Dr Parihar motivated the players to participate with dedication and uphold the spirit of sportsmanship. Dr Bakshi appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee and encouraged students to actively engage in sports alongside academics.
In the men’s section, SPMR College of Commerce defeated Govt. MAM College by 5-0 and GGM Science College defeated the host college by 5-0. In the women’s section, SPMR College of Commerce beat GCW Gandhi Nagar by 3-2 and GGM Science College defeated the host college by 3-1.
The matches were officiated by Amit Kumar and Rajiv Bakshi. The event was organized by the College Sports Committee led by Ramandeep Kralia, with contributions from Dr Rakesh Bharti, Dr Shalini Rana, and Dr Sonam Gandotra. Coordinating the inaugural session, Dr Rakesh Bharti conducted the proceedings smoothly. Distinguished participants included Kajal Premi, Ravi Kumar, Neenu, Prof Chaman Lal, Dr Nisha, Dr Sushma Bala, Dr Shubhra Jamwal, Dr Suraj Prakash, Dr Shallu Jasrotia, Dr Rajesh Manhas and Prof Roopa.
