JAMMU, Mar 10: Jammu will host the National Selection trials in Rhythmic Gymnastics for Junior and Senior players at M A Stadium from March 11 to 12. Organized by the Gymnastics Federation of India, these trials aim to select female gymnasts for the upcoming Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup, World Championship and Asian Championships in both individual and group events.
Organisers said this is the second time that the J&K Gymnastics Academy (GAJK) will conduct these prestigious trials in the region. The gymnasts will be evaluated by a panel of highly qualified international and national judges, with selected athletes moving forward to participate in national camps and foreign training exposure. The trials are a significant step toward identifying top talent to represent India on the international stage.
To ensure fairness and consistency, a clinic for judges was also conducted, focusing on the latest rules set by the International Gymnastics Federation for the new cycle. The clinic was led by expert judges who recently passed their exams from the International Gymnastics Federation.
Jammu and Kashmir gymnasts have made the state proud by winning the highest number of medals at the recent National Games in Uttarakhand. Kiran Wattal, Vice President of the Gymnastics Federation of India and President of J&K Gymnastics Association, expressed gratitude to the J&K administration, particularly LG Manoj Sinha, CM Omar Abdullah and Sports Minister Satish Sharma for the thoughtful and commendable decision to allot two dedicated Gymnastics Academy in Srinagar as well in Jammu mentioned during the J&K budget 2025.
Wattal expressed that this initiative of establishing Gymnastics high performance Academies is a monumental step toward nurturing young talent and providing aspiring gymnasts with the necessary infrastructure, training facilities and opportunities to excel at national and international levels.
