JAMMU, Aug 22: The Department of Youth Services and Sports, District Jammu, commenced the Inter-Zonal District Level Competitions for Under-19 girls in Volleyball, Football, Kabaddi and Chess (All Age Group) at Khel Gaon, Nagrota. The event, aimed at promoting grassroots sports and selecting talent for higher-level tournaments, witnessed the participation of approximately 450 players from various zones across Jammu district.
In the U/19 Girls’ Kabaddi final, Zone Jammu defeated Zone Khour convincingly by 31–17 points. In Volleyball, strong performances were seen from Zone Satwari, Zone Gandhi Nagar, Zone Jammu, Zone Bhalwal and others, with several teams winning matches in straight sets. The Chess (All Age Group) girls’ event also saw intense one-on-one battles, with players from Zones Jammu, Akhnoor, Bhalwal and Gandhi Nagar displaying sharp strategic skills.
Meanwhile, the U/19 Boys’ Football tournament concluded with Zone Jammu thrashing Zone Gandhi Nagar by 5–0 in the final, led by Harshit, who scored four goals. Earlier, Jammu had defeated Akhnoor by 5–2 in the semi-finals.
