Ladakh shines, Haryana tops medal table at KIWG-2026

LEH, Jan 24: The Khelo India Winter Games 2026 witnessed thrilling action today as hosts Ladakh won their first gold and Haryana consolidated its lead in the medal tally. Ladakh’s women’s relay quartet-Skarma Tsultim, Shabana Zara, Tasnia Shameem and Insha Fatima-clinched the 2000m short track relay at Nawang Dorjay Stobdan Stadium in an eventful race marked by flips and crashes. Despite a challenging competition from Karnataka and Maharashtra, Ladakh emerged victorious in 3:49.23, lifting the team to second place in the overall standings.
Haryana dominated short-track skating with two gold medals. Sachin Singh shone in the men’s 500m sprint, clocking 46.14 seconds, and then contributed to Haryana’s 3000m relay win, becoming the first double gold medallist of KIWG 2026. Telangana’s 17-year-old Nayana Sri Talluri continued her remarkable run, winning the women’s 500m short track in 50.49 seconds, her fourth consecutive gold in this event at Khelo India.
In ice hockey, Chandigarh edged past Himachal Pradesh 4-3 in extra time to claim the women’s bronze medal. With competitive performances across short track and ice hockey, the Games are proving to be a milestone for winter sports in India, highlighting emerging talent from across the nation.
