Historic Win: J&K U-19 team defeats Mumbai in Cooch Behar Trophy

JAMMU, Nov 26: In a historic triumph, the Jammu and Kashmir U-19 Men’s cricket team defeated Mumbai by a commanding 93-run margin in the prestigious Cooch Behar Trophy.
Resuming from their overnight score of 22 for 2, Mumbai continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. However, the lower order displayed commendable grit and resilience to extend the innings, yet the disciplined and relentless bowling attack of Jammu & Kashmir ultimately paved the way for a historic triumph.
Aryan Patil top-scored with a resilient 50 off 102 deliveries, including seven boundaries and a six, while Parsoon Singh and Anirudh Nair contributed 35 and 30 runs respectively. Skipper Aryan Sakpal and Harsh A also played useful cameos, scoring 25 runs each. For Jammu and Kashmir, Zaid Ahmed and Jeevesh Sharma were the pick of the bowlers, claiming three wickets apiece, while skipper Dhruv Sharma bagged two. Faizan Ahmed and Solib Tariq also chipped in with a wicket each.
Earlier, J&K had set a challenging target of 351 runs for the visitors. In their first innings, after being invited to bat, Jammu and Kashmir had posted a total of 209 runs. Captain Dhruv Sharma led from the front with a composed 53, while Kamaksh Sharma added a solid 52. Arman Sharma (33), Faizan Ahmad (29), and Abdul Basit Lone (21) were the other notable contributors. For Mumbai, Harsh impressed with the ball, taking four wickets, while Abhay Patel and Sarthak Bhide supported well with two wickets each. In reply, Mumbai managed 218 runs in their first innings, taking a narrow nine-run lead. Vansh Chumble fought hard with a gritty 73, while Raza Mirza made 25.
J&K bounced back strongly in their second innings, posting a commanding total of 359 runs. Shiva Thakur top-scored with a fluent 71, while Arman Sharma added a valuable 67. Arjun Sharma (47), Kamaksh (44), Salman Bakshi (34), and Faizan Ahmad (23) provided vital contributions down the order. Among Mumbai’s bowlers, Abhay Patel took a five-wicket haul, while Parsoon Singh claimed three wickets.
Member Administration JKCA Brig Anil Gupta hailed the day as a memorable one for J&K cricket, lauding both the senior team’s victory over Maharashtra and the junior side’s emphatic win against Mumbai.
