Historic First: 7 JKCA Players in North Zone Squad

JAMMU, Aug 7: In a historic moment for Jammu and Kashmir cricket, seven players from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir-five players in the main squad, two in standbys and a coach-have been named in the North Zone team for the prestigious Duleep Trophy 2025, scheduled from August 28 to September 15.
North Zone will face East Zone, while Central will take on North East Zone in the season-opening Duleep Trophy matches in Bengaluru on August 28.

The squad selection meeting was convened by Mithun Manhas, Member, Cricket Operations and Development JKCA. Notably, JKCA served as the zonal convener for the first time in history. Due to pressing commitments of selectors from other associations, the meeting, initially scheduled in Jammu, was shifted to Delhi.
The selection committee included Chetan Sharma (HCA), Mukesh Sharma (HPCA), Nikhil Chopra (DDCA), Amit Uniyal (UTCA), Capt (IN) D.S. Jakhar (SSCB) and Sarabjeet Singh (Chairman JKCA Senior Men’s Selection Committee).
The selected J&K cricketers are: Shubham Khajuria (batter), Sahil Lotra (off-spin all-rounder), Yudhvir Singh Charak (fast bowling all-rounder), Auqib Nabi (fast bowling all-rounder) and Kanhaiya Wadhawan (wicketkeeper-batter). Abid Mushtaq and Umar Nazir have been named as standbys. Shubham Khajuria is also being considered for vice-captaincy, in case Shubman Gill is called for national duty.
Coaches include P. Krishna Kumar (JKCA) and former India cricketer Sarandeep Singh. Brig. Anil Gupta, Member Administration JKCA, termed it a “historic day” for J&K cricket, crediting Mithun Manhas for his vision. Manhas acknowledged the contributions of Head Coach Ajay Sharma and reiterated JKCA’s commitment to promoting young talent.
