LEH, Jan 16: The inaugural Himalayan Pond Hockey Championship, supported by Royal Enfield Social Mission, concluded at Gupuks Pond, here today. Organized in partnership with Thin Ice Adventure, the event aimed to promote grassroots ice hockey and inclusive participation in the region.
The programme began with a five-day “Learn to Play” initiative, introducing over 40 children to skating and ice hockey under the guidance of trained local and international coaches. A sledge hockey exhibition match featuring differently-abled players, supported by PAGIR, highlighted the sport’s accessibility for all.
The championship featured 17 amateur teams competing in a fast-paced 3v3 format, totaling 170 matches. Players from eight nationalities, including children, girls, women, men and international participants, shared the ice. Tejasvi Teen won the championship, Team Slayer finished second, and Always First secured third. Individual awards included Top Scorer – Phuntsog Gyaltsan, MVP – Tashi Namgyal and Accuracy Champion – Rigzin Chilam.
The event drew families, residents, and visitors, reinforcing ice hockey as a social and cultural anchor in Ladakh’s winters. It also serves as a precursor to the Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League Season 3, scheduled from January 29 to February 14, 2026, continuing the mission to promote community-driven winter sports.
