JAMMU, Oct 21: Former Union Minister and MLA Jammu West, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta laid the foundation stone of stadium at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Bakshi Nagar in Ward No 27, here today.
The stadium is to be constructed from Constituency Development Fund (CDF) of Prof Gupta, initially with Rs 10 lakh in phase-1 of the plan.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Jammu West said that the construction of a stadium was very old demand of the people in the area, adding that sports plays important role in building healthy society.
Gupta further said that the initial amount is not sufficient for the stadium and he will speak to Sports Minister for his intervention for more funds enabling to complete the project on time to help youth hone their skill.
Meanwhile, Prof Gupta handed over Rs 20, 000 from CM Fund, Rs 25,000 from CDF and Rs one lakh from Education Department to Sonika Sharma who is suffering from Kidney failure. He also appealed the people to come forward to help the young girl.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Happy Sharma, Raman, Prem Gupta, S Bikri Singh, Ashwani, Ashok Gandhi, Sardar Dimpa Singh, Satpal Jamwal,
S Hardev Singh, Surjit Singh and Uttam Kohli.
