JAMMU, Feb 15: Jammu and Kashmir suffered a 146-run defeat against Goa in the Men’s U-23 CK Nayudu Trophy at the JKCA Hostel Ground here today.
Chasing 266 for victory, J&K were bowled out for 120, with Arnav Gupta fighting a lone battle through a brisk 52 off 73 balls, studded with seven boundaries. The rest of the batting line-up failed to offer resistance as Goa’s bowlers dominated proceedings.
Manish P Kakode was the wrecker-in-chief for Goa, claiming a five-wicket haul to dismantle the hosts. He was well supported by Yash Kasvankar, who picked up three wickets and Samarth, who chipped in with two.
Earlier, resuming at 24 without loss in their second innings, Goa were bowled out for 192, setting a competitive 266-run target. Off-spinner Praful Dhar led a spirited fight back with a superb 6 for 53 in 18 overs, while Sarvashish Singh claimed 3 for 66 to keep the visitors in check. First-innings centurion Shaantanu Nevagi top-scored with 64 and Sarthak Madkaikar added 34.
In the first innings, Goa had posted 286 on the back of Nevagi’s brilliant century. J&K’s left-arm spinner Vishal Kumar impressed with a six-wicket haul to restrict the total. However, the hosts managed only 212 in reply, despite Udhay Partap’s resolute 64, conceding a crucial lead that ultimately proved decisive.
Despite notable individual performances with the ball, J&K could not overcome Goa’s all-round superiority as the visitors sealed a comprehensive 146-run victory.
