KARGIL, Feb 10: Executive Councillor for Tourism, LAHDC Kargil, Kacho Mohd Feroz, attended the closing ceremony of 15-day Ice Hockey Training-cum-Tournament for girls, organized by District Hub for Women, Mission Shakti, Department of Social and Tribal Welfare, Kargil, in collaboration with DYSS Kargil and the Ice Hockey Association Kargil. The programme was conducted under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Scheme, aimed at promoting sports and holistic development among girls.
The ceremony was attended by ADC Kargil Imteeaz Kacho, District Programme Officer ICDS Kargil Nargis Banoo, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Abid Ali, along with officers, parents, and participants. Addressing the gathering, EC Kacho Mohd Feroz appreciated the Department of Social and Tribal Welfare for organising the camp and emphasized the need to empower girls through sports. He stressed the importance of proper sports equipment, safety gear and equal opportunities for all girls. He also highlighted the scope of exposure tours and strengthening winter sports infrastructure in Kargil.
ADC Imteeaz Kacho praised the initiative and encouraged longer-duration camps while calling for identification of more ice hockey spots in the district. DPO ICDS Nargis Banoo informed that girls were trained in basic and intermediate ice hockey levels, lauding their confidence, discipline, and team spirit.
The event concluded with prize distribution for top performers in Under-19, Under-14 and Under-12 categories, along with certificates for all participants. EC Feroz and other dignitaries expressed hope that the trained girls would represent Kargil at national and international levels, reflecting the success of women-centric sports initiatives.
