JAMMU, June 10: Skipper Rajesh Gill, all-rounder Shamsher Singh Manhas and speedster Sunil powered Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) XI to an emphatic win over Eleven Star Cricket Club to move into the last four stage in the ongoing Salute and Tribute to the Players Veteran T20 Cricket Tournament, being organized by the Parade Sports Association at Parade Ground, here.
Earlier, batting first, Eleven Star Cricket Club managed to score a meagre total of 100 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Harry was the top scorer with sedate 20 runs off 30 balls including one boundary, while skipper Kamal Sharma and IP Singh contributed 14 and 13 runs respectively with 2 boundaries each. For JKP XI, Sunil bagged 3 wickets, while RK Bhat and Rajesh Gill claimed 2 wickets each. Iqbal also took one wicket.
JKP XI, in reply, sailed on a brilliant opening partnership of 50 odd runs between Rajesh Gill and Shamsher Singh and reached the required target in 11.5 overs by losing 4 wickets, thus won the match by 6 wickets. Gill top scored with unbeaten 40 runs off 39 balls, studded with 5 boundaries, while Shamsher contributed quick 34 runs of just 17 balls with the help of fours and one six. Pawan took 2 wickets for Eleven Star, while Kamal Sharma and Shukal claimed one wicket each. For his fabulous all-round show, Rajesh Gill of JKP XI was adjudged man of the match.
The match was officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik and Vijay Dogra as umpires while Ajay Sharma was the scorer. Dr Karan Nayyar is the official physiotherapist, while Harsh Nayyar is the organizing secretary of the tournament.
Dogra Cricket Club will take on Satwari Cricket Club in the next match tomorrow.
