JAMMU, July 24: Department of English of Government College of Education Jammu today organized a one day national webinar on ’employment opportunities in English language’ for English language graduates and Post Graduate students.
The webinar was aimed at bridging the gap between the job opportunities available in the field of English language and literature and the awareness about it. The webinar was organized by HoD English Prof Shalini Rana (Convenor), Dr Shubhra Jamwal (Organising Secretary) and Prof Shapia Shameem.
In the inaugural session, the Principal of the College Dr Kulvinder Kour lauded the efforts of the department in ensuring persistent outreach to the students even during these challenging times. She further said that in the current scenario we need to lay emphasis on empowering the students about the various opportunities available in the job market besides imparting knowledge, information and skills.
In his message, Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Department Talat Parvez Rohella also appreciated the efforts of the organizing team and the institution for making the best use of available technology for the betterment of the students.
M Prasana Venkateshwaran, from ELTAC Services Chennai was the resource person for the webinar. In his presentation, he apprised the students about 80 new job opportunities available for English language students. Under the 12 headings, he extensively focused on variety of jobs in journalism, research, publishing, travel and tourism, marketing, linguistics, training, creative writing, entertainment industry, human resource, business, examiners, IELTS instructors, translation besides teaching.
He also apprised the students about the employers’ expectations in the current scenario. The presentation was followed by question and answer session and the students also inquired about various skill courses and its future prospects.
