JAMMU, Sept 21: 41st National Sub Junior Chess Championship got underway at Jalsa Retreat, Domana, here today.
184 players including 77 girls from 26 States are participating in the event, wherein 4 players from boys section and one winner from girls section will represent India for World Olympiad Youth team (U-16) and six players in each section will be selected for two International trips one at Europe and other at Russia.
Chander Prakash Ganga, Minister for Industries inaugurated the event by making first move, while OSD to Dr Jitendra Singh, MoS, PMO, Sanjeev Sharma was special guest on occasion.
Atul Kumar Gupta, president All J&K Chess Association and joint secretary AICF, Ashiq Ahmed Kolu, general secretary All J&K Chess Association, Taranvir Singh Gujral vice president, Vikas Nanda coordinator, Dr AS Bhatia Advisor and Rajiv Luthra Chairman Luthra Colleges were also present on the occasion.
The chief arbiter of the event is Nitin Shenvi from Maharashtra, who is being supported by six other arbiters from different States including Assam, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and J&K.
The event is played under FIDE Laws of chess and a total of 11 rounds will be played in Swiss System.
While speaking on the occasion, Chander Prakash Ganga lauded the efforts of All J&K Chess Association for organizing such a big event in J&K State and said that it will go a long way in channelizing the energies of youth towards positive direction and constructive thinking.
