SRINAGAR, July 29: Friends 11 Lolab were crowned champions of the Indian Army’s Lolab Premier League in a pulsating final against Shaheen Sports Lalpora at Chandigam Sports Ground. The match saw Shaheen Sports choose to bat first after winning the toss, but early wickets put them on the back foot. The middle order rallied to post a total of 70 all out in 17.2 overs.
Chasing a modest target, Friends 11 started aggressively with 22 runs off the first two overs. Shaheen’s bowlers fought back, taking four wickets in the next three overs, but captain Zakir Wani and Aamir ‘Lefty’ stabilised the chase to take their team home in just eight overs with five wickets in hand. Wani’s leadership and performance earned him both Man of the Match and Player of the Tournament honours.
The winners received a trophy and Rs 25,000 cash prize, while the runners-up were awarded Rs15,000. The final was inaugurated by Fayaz Ahmad Mir, Zonal Physical Education Officer, who praised the Indian Army for supporting youth sports platforms in Kashmir. He also acknowledged the contributions of organisers Imtiyaz Khan, Akhtar Hussain, Shaukat Akbar, Zubair Bhat, Shahnawaz Shah and Imtiyaz Dar.
The tournament featured 64 teams across four venues in Lolab Valley, making it the largest cricket event in the region. The finale underscored Friends 11 Lolab’s dominance and showcased the valley’s growing sporting zeal
