JAMMU, July 3: The first phase of the Himalayan Trekking Programme, organised by Tawi Trekkers J&K, concluded with the return of the final group of trekkers from Mcleodganj, Himachal Pradesh.
Around 500 students from schools such as MHAC School Nagbani, Aryan Oriental Convent Udhampur, St. Xavier Convent Barnai and JK Montessori School Jammu participated. The programme aimed to foster adventure spirit, environmental awareness and physical fitness among youth.
During the trek, students explored scenic and spiritual sites including Bhagsu, Dharamkot, Gallu Temple, Dal Lake, the Dalai Lama temple complex and a tea estate. They also engaged in nature study, group games, and team-building activities.
The first group of 90 students was flagged off from Kala Kendra, Jammu on June 10 by Anil Goswami, former Home Secretary of India and Chairman of Tawi Trekkers. Other notable personalities also flagged off subsequent groups.
“This trek helped students connect with nature, build discipline and discover themselves,” said Sonam Sidharth, general secretary of Tawi Trekkers. The programme was supported by J&K Sports Council, Mountaineering Association of J&K and Adventure Holidays India. The second phase is scheduled post-monsoon.
