JAMMU, Jan 24: Young ace fencer, Subhanaya Sharma, from Jammu and Kashmir, has been selected to represent India at the prestigious Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing Championship, set to take place in Kuwait from February 19 to 28, 2025. Subhanaya earned her spot in the Indian team following her exceptional performance at the 19th Cadet National Fencing Championship (B&G) 2024-2025, held in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand. She secured a bronze medal in the Sabre event, marking a significant achievement in her fencing career.
The selection was made based on her impressive skills and was approved by the Sports Authority of India, under the “full Cost to Government” scheme. The J&K Fencing Association played a vital role in her participation, and the team was cleared by the J&K Sports Council.
Congratulatory messages poured in for Subhanaya, including from Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, Nuzat Gul, who wished her success in the upcoming competition. International fencer Rashid Ahmed Choudhary, and J&K Fencing Association President, Vijay Kumar, also extended their best wishes.
Subhanaya, a student of former international fencer Ujjwal Gupta, continues to inspire the next generation of fencers in J&K with her remarkable achievements.
