Ex-Serviceman Archery Cup concludes

KARGIL, Mar 5: Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Chairman/CEC of LAHDC Kargil, attended the closing ceremony of the Ex-Serviceman Archery Cup 2025 at Mini Stadium Sankoo. The event saw the presence of Major General K Mahesh, GOC 8 Mountain Division, Brigadier Amit Bola, Xen SVD Sankoo, Tehsildar Sankoo, Army officers and numerous archery enthusiasts from across the district.
In his speech, CEC Dr. Akhoon praised the ex-servicemen for their dedication to preserving the cultural heritage of archery. He emphasized the importance of such events in promoting physical fitness and strengthening community ties. He also thanked the Indian Army for its support to ex-servicemen and highlighted the strong relationship between the Army and locals in Ladakh.
Dr. Akhoon announced that the upgradation of the Mini Stadium in Sankoo is already in progress and assured support for the construction of a Community Hall for ex-servicemen. He also allocated Rs 3 lakh from untied funds for the purchase of furniture.
The CEC noted the Hill Council Kargil’s efforts in organizing events across Suru Valley, which was recognized as one of the world’s top 25 destinations by National Geographic. He also urged the Army to provide training to youth aspiring to join the forces.
The competition concluded with Jaffaria Lankarchey winning in modern archery and Rangyul Thasgam claiming the local archery title.
