DoP to hold football tourney from Aug 25

SRINAGAR, July 27: The Department of Posts (DoP) is hosting 2012-All India Postal Football tournament at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar. The tournament will start on August 25 and it would end on August 29.
Addressing a press conference here today, John Samuel, Chief Postmaster General said that the arrangements for the tournament are being taken on war footing. He said that this is a great opportunity for the entire State to witness some of the great footballers of the country adding that Football is the most favourite game in the State especially Kashmir valley.
Samuel said that in 2011 Department of Posts organized All India Postal Athletic meet in Srinagar after a gap of 36 years. He said the success of the athletic meet paved the way for organizing the All India Postal Football tournament in Srinagar for the first time.
He said that while the J&K Postal Circle is taking initiatives to revive the Postal Services in the entire State to provide efficient service to the public, Department of Posts is also promoting sports activities. He said that this year J&K Postal Circle will be recruiting sports persons associated with different sports under Sports Quota. Samuel said that the State football team has been selected and the coaching camp has already begun. He said apart from football, the Circle will also be organizing various Circle level events including Cricket, Badminton, Carrom, Kabbadi, Cultural, Table tennis and Chess.
The tournament is being held in association with J&K Sports Council and J&K Football Association.
