SRINAGAR, Oct 16: An all-round performance by Jammu & Kashmir kept them firmly in the contest on Day 2 of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group-A clash against heavyweights Mumbai at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium, Srinagar.
Resuming from an overnight 336/6, Mumbai were restricted to 386 in their first innings, thanks to a fiery spell from Yudhvir Singh Charak, who claimed a superb 5-wicket haul for 96 runs in 21 overs. He was ably supported by Aquib Nabi (2/54), Umar Nazir (1 wicket) and Abid Mushtaq (1 wicket). Siddesh Lad top-scored for Mumbai with a well-crafted 116, while Shams Mulani added 91. Ayush Mhatre and Tanush Kotian chipped in with 28 runs each.
In reply, J&K suffered an early collapse, losing openers Shubham Khajuria (0) and Musaif Ajaz (1) cheaply. However, experienced skipper Paras Dogra played a captain’s knock, anchoring the innings with a classy unbeaten 112 off 169 balls, which included 16 boundaries. Valuable support came from Abdul Samad (44) and Abid Mushtaq (40), taking J&K to 273/7 at stumps, still trailing by 113 runs.
For Mumbai, Tushar Deshpande and Tanush Kotian took two wickets each, while Shardul Thakur, Irfan Umair and Shams Mulani picked up one apiece.
With two days remaining, the match remains finely balanced and J&K will look to gain a first-innings lead to put pressure on the visitors.
