POONCH, Jan 21: Deputy Commissioner of Poonch, Vikas Kundal, inaugurated three-day DM Chess Championship today at DNRM Girls Higher Secondary School, Poonch. The event was organized in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
The opening ceremony was attended by key administrative figures, including ADC Tahir Mustafa Malik, CPO Mohd. Rafi, AD Food Adil Shabir, DIO NIC Parvinder Singh and PA to DC Manjeet Kour.
In his address, Vikas Kundal encouraged the participants to embrace sports, particularly chess, describing it as a mentally challenging game that also provides enjoyment. He further emphasized the historical significance of chess, tracing its origins to India and its global spread, thus highlighting the country’s rich cultural heritage in sports.
The tournament will offer a competitive atmosphere with significant incentives for the winners: Rs 5,000 for first place, Rs 3,000 for second place, and Rs 2,000 for third place. This event provides an excellent opportunity for the youth of Poonch to showcase their chess skills, foster camaraderie, and promote healthy competition.
