KARGIL, July 8: DLS Shimsha defeated Yuva Karkit by 3 wickets and lifted the title trophy of Captain Saurabh Kalia LoC Cup 2019 at Captain Saurabh Kalia Ground Kaksar, here.
32 teams from Shingo Valley participated in the tournament, which is an annual feature being organized by Youth Federation Kaksar, in collaboration with Indian Army since 2005.
On this occasion, GoC 8 Mountain Division Major General, Sanjeev Dogra was the chief guest and Commander 121 Infantry Brigade, Councillor Hardass Altaf Hussain, Sajjad Kargili, Social Activist and Mohammad Hamza from SEWAK and army officers were also present.
Appreciating the coordination between the people and the Army he said that such coordination is required and has a fruitful result as an outcome and this tournament is one of such outcome.
The GOC while talking on this occasion appreciated the talent of the youth of Shingo Zone and encouraged them to try their talent at State and National Level.
He said the tournament was an initiative of the youth of Kaksar to pay homage to Late Captain Saurabh Kalia who was one of them before Kargil War and used to play cricket with the youth of the Village at the same ground.
He further added that this Tournament was started in 2005 by the youths of Kaksar to pay homage to the martyr of Kargil War particularly to Late Captain Saurabh Kalia.
The event has now become a tourist attraction and people visit Kaksar to witness the tournament during these days.
Later the chief guest distributed prizes and awards among the winners and runners-up teams.
