SRINAGAR, Jan 7: The District Bandipora Taekwondo Championship 2025–26 was formally inaugurated today at the Indoor Stadium, Shadipora, Bandipora, marking the commencement of a vibrant two-day sporting event celebrating discipline, skill and youth empowerment.
The championship is being organized by the Taekwondo Association of District Bandipora under the aegis of the J&K Taekwondo Association (JKTA) and J&K Sports Council (JKSC). Around 200 boys and girls from various age groups and Taekwondo clubs across district Bandipora are participating in the championship.
The opening ceremony was graced by Padma Shri awardee and Brand Ambassador of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Fasil Ali Dar, who formally inaugurated the championship. Addressing the gathering, Dar encouraged young athletes to adopt sports as a way of life and remain committed to a drug-free and purpose-driven future.
This annual championship holds special importance as it also serves as a selection trial for the upcoming UT-level Taekwondo Championship, scheduled to be held later this month in Jammu. Outstanding performers from this event will earn the opportunity to represent District Bandipora at the Union Territory level.
