District-Level U-19 Boys tourney held

UDHAMPUR, Aug 4: The Department of Youth Services & Sports, Udhampur conducted the District-Level Inter-School Tournament for Under-19 Boys in various disciplines including fencing, taekwondo, judo, boxing, football, softball and handball. The competitions were held at Subash Stadium and Mini Stadium, Udhampur, with active participation of around 340 students from different Higher Secondary Schools of the district.
The event was held under the supervision of DYSSO Romesh Mishra and was graced by Pushpinder Kour (ZPEO Tikri), Vijay Kumar (ZPEO Panchari), and Jyoti Rani (ZPEO Jib) as guests of honour. In her address, Pushpinder Kour welcomed the participants, spoke on the harmful effects of drug abuse, and encouraged youth to remain active in sports for overall well-being.
In fencing, Akshal Thakur (HSS Garhi), Mohd Akif (HSS Boys Udhampur), Anuj Goswami (HSS Garhi) and Mohd Babar (Happy Model HSS) emerged as winners in the 40kg, 45kg, 48kg and 52kg categories respectively. Judo winners included Vansh Sharma and Rajinder Singh from HSS Garhi and Rohan Thakur from Happy Model HSS. In taekwondo, Shivansh Rajput and Sanjeev Kumar of HSS Boys Udhampur and Mubser Hussain of Indira Memorial HSS Rathian took top honours. Softball saw impressive performances by Shivansh Bajal and Manat Singh (Indira Memorial HSS) and Rajinder Singh (HSS Garhi). Boxing winners included Haresh Kumar (Happy Model), Mohd Babar (Vijay HSS) and Saksham Singh (HSS Boys). Football and handball trials were also conducted and selected players will represent Udhampur in the upcoming divisional-level tournaments.
