UDHAMPUR, May 22: The District-Level Inter-School and Inter-Zone Sports meet was inaugurated today in Udhampur, with over 367 young athletes competing across multiple sports. Organized by the District Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) Department, the event features sports like Kho Kho, Judo, Softball, and Wushu for Under-14 and Under-17 Girls. The opening ceremony was graced by Romesh Chander Mishra as chief guest.
In his address, Mishra highlighted the importance of sports in shaping youth development, emphasizing discipline and a healthy lifestyle. The competitions kicked off with exciting matches in Kho Kho, where Zone Udhampur and Zone Chenani claimed victory in the U-14 and U-17 Girls categories, respectively.
The winners in the Judo competition included Preeti Devi in 23 kg category and Anjali Devi in the 27 kg category from GMS Silda and Shivali from GMS Laddan in the 50 kg category.
Meanwhile, trials for Softball and Wushu were also held to identify athletes for upcoming divisional and state-level selections.
