POONCH, Mar 2: Sixth District Handball Championship, organised by District Association in collaboration with J&K Sports Council for senior men commenced, here today.
The championship is being played on league cum knockout basis wherein six teams are participating.
The championship was declared open by Saleem Banday (AEE), in presence of the other prominent persons including Taj Mir, Adv Zaman, Incharge Sports Stadium Poonch Nirdosh Sharma, TSO Poonch Manmohan Suri, Mukesh Sharma (PET), Neeraj Sharma (PET), DK Raina (PET), Charan Singh, Tarlochan Singh, Matinder Pal Singh PET and Pervaiz Ahmed.
The organising secretary of the championship, Sourab Sharma welcomed all the guests, players, officials, spectators and media persons.
Stadium -A defeated Ajote Club by 19-16 goals, while Khari Karmara trounced Stadium-B by 18-12 goals, Ajote Club beat Daradullian by 17-12 goals, Khari Karmara smashed GDC Poonch by 22-17goals, Stadium -A trounced Daradullian by 20-12 goals and GDC Poonch got better of Stadium-B by 21-14 goals.
The matches were officiated by a technical panel comprising Ghulam Abbas, Singh (PET), Imtiaz Lone (REK) and Mohd Iqbal.
