Dhirendra Kumar breaks record to claim Pole Vault gold

KOZHIKODE, May 27: Dhirendra Kumar of Gujarat shattered the national and meet records to bag the gold in the boys Pole Vault category on the second day of 13th National Youth (Under 18) Athletics championship here today.     Kumar vaulted a height of 4.72m to claim the first place in boys Pole Vault, bettering the national record of 4.70m set by P Kumar Patel of Uttar Pradesh in 2010 and the meet record of 4.41 m by Kundan of Haryana in 2011.     Delhi’s Manish Singh came second with 4.40m followed by Krishnan of Haryana who finished third with 4.30m.     In the boys long jump, Kerala’s M Sreeshankar covered a distance of 7.49m breaking a meet record of 7.41m set by Madhya Pradesh’s Ankit Kumar in 2009.

    M Mahesh (TN) claimed the second spot with 7.18m and S Lokesh (Karnataka) finished third with 7.14m.     Similarly, in the girls 3 kgs Hammer Throw, Uttar Pradesh’s Ayesha Patel eclipsed the meet record of 52.19m set  by Poonam Jakhar of Haryana in 2015, clearing a distance of 52.71m.

    The second and third spots were claimed by Radhana Yadav (Bihar) with 47.45m and Sneha Suryakant Jadhav (Maharastra) with 45.89m. (PTI)
