JAMMU, Sept 9: The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has issued notice in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by former State and National-level badminton players, alleging large-scale irregularities in the functioning of the Badminton Association of Jammu and Kashmir.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Arun Palli and Justice Rajnesh Oswal took cognizance of the PIL, which seeks strict implementation of the Sports Code of India, 2011, along with guidelines issued by the J&K Sports Council for regulating sports associations in the Union Territory.
The petitioners, led by Bakhtawar Singh and others, have urged the court to intervene in ensuring transparency, accountability and adherence to rules within the badminton body.
Senior Additional Advocate General S S Nanda, along with Government Advocate Eishaan Dadhichi and Advocate Anshuja Tak, appeared on behalf of the respondents, while notice was issued to other parties for filing their response.
The bench granted time to the respondents to seek instructions and submit their replies before the next date of hearing. The matter has been listed for further consideration on November 10, 2025.
