JAMMU, Nov 6: The Central University of Jammu (CU Jammu) has added another feather to its cap with its ASTRO Team winning the prestigious ‘Best Design Award’ in the Model Rocketry category at Model Rocketry/CANSAT India Student Competition 2025. The four-day competition, held at Tamkuhiraj, Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, was organized by the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe), in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Astronautical Society of India (ASI).
This year’s event saw participation from 71 student teams, totalling around 600 students from top institutions across India. The teams were tasked with designing and launching model rockets capable of deploying miniature satellites at altitudes of approximately 1.5 km. The Central University Jammu ASTRO Team emerged victorious, praised for their innovative design, technical expertise, and teamwork in rocket structure and payload integration.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanjeev Jain, expressed his pride in the team’s achievement, acknowledging their efforts in representing CU Jammu at the national level. The teams were supervised by Prof. Rakesh Kumar Jha and mentored by Dr. Misbah Shafi and Dr. Haneet Kour. The event was inaugurated by Shashank Mani Tripathi, Member of Parliament and concluded with an inspiring address from Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla.
