JAMMU, Sept 15: Four sport climbers of J&K namely Shashi Kant, Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Singh and Ashish Thakur left today for Delhi to attend Climbers Training Course.
The course is being conducted by Indian Mountaineering Foundation in its complex from September 15 to September 21, 2013.
About 30 climbers from across the country will be participating in this prestigious training programme.
While, Shashi Kant and Abhishek Singh are the state champions in the Men and Boys category, Akshay and Ashish are the runners up in the respective categories.
During the week-long training programme to be conducted under the supervision of Chinese instructors, the participants will be imparted training in the latest techniques of climbing in lead, speed and Bouldering on the international standard climbing walls in the IMF complex.
The purpose of the training programme is to improve the overall standard of Indian climbers.
Earlier, all the four climbers called on the general secretary, Mountaineering Association of J&K, Ram Khajuria who is also secretary of Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee.
Mr Khajuria told the climbers that it was a rare opportunity for them to get training under international coaches and exhorted them to work hard during the training period to learn the finer points of the game.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included Shawetica Khajuria, a national Judge in Sport Climbing and Sumit Khajuria, a senior mountaineer.
