JAMMU, Sept 30: In order to promote Jammu as a tourist destination by highlighting its culture and also to promote fitness and sports among people by encouraging running, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with Taurus Events organized the first night run “Glow Run”, here.
The run was flagged off from Gulshan Ground here to support the cause of women safety and say no to drugs. The Marathon had categories of 21, 10 and 5 kilometers.
Rajesh Sharma, Vice Chairman CII J&K State Council said, “In order to transform J&K into a formidable sporting State, there is need to sensitize and seek perception change. J&K is gradually becoming a multi-sports State and it is interesting to witness inflow of funds in non-cricket sports as well”.
The run saw the august gathering of professional and casual runners. Stephen from South Africa who participated in the run admired the efforts made by CII to promote such unique events and in encouraging the runners from all over the world to see the beauty of Jammu.
Sanjeev Verma, Divisional Commissioner Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion, while Dr SD Singh, IGP Jammu Zone was the guest of honor.
On the occasion, the special guests were Ramesh Kumar, DC Jammu, Dr Ravi Shankar Sharma, Director Industries and Commerce Department Amit Sharma, Director Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA).
Sanjeev Verma appreciated the efforts of CII and Taurus for promoting such eco-friendly adventure sports in Jammu region.
Dr SD Singh, IGP Jammu applauded the efforts and enthusiasm of CII and promised his support for such events in future also.
In this race, five members of Jammu Runners Group, who became Race Ambassadors, were Surinder Chowhary, Rajesh Padha, Dilawar Khan, Kanu Priya Garg and Sumeet Singh.
Those who became Pacers from Jammu Runners Group were Rohin Raina, Stephen, Tajinder Singh, Dr Maninder Singh, Amit Ahuja, Mr Sood, Rajesh Padha and Anik.
